    January 2026

Hey all, this is the January 2026 update shark_wave

As far as content visible on the NativShark goes, in January, we...

shark_starfish did various content fixes (typos, clarity, etc.)

In other words, there were no new Units released in January. 👀 Here's why:

    Pausing new Unit releases

New Unit releases are officially paused until the 2.0 update is out.

The main reasons for this include...

    • The data model of NativShark is changing for 2.0. We have to do a one-time, one-way migration of all content over to the new platform so we can start working on it there. That migration is happening very soon.
    • The entire NativShark team (including the content team) is now fully focused on 2.0, both reworking content and adjusting it to fit the 2.0 format.
    • While trying to release some new Units in January outside of normal work hours (because the focus is on 2.0 now), the content pipeline broke. Considering how the content migration is imminent and how fixing it would delay 2.0's release, we decided it's best to continue to focus on 2.0.

Since we have 989 Units currently available to be studied (years of content on an average pace), this pause is unlikely to affect most NativShark learners, especially those who are just starting out.

If you happen to be one of the few who are fully caught up, feel free to spend your extra time in native materials or Review Sets (and also, great job! You've seen over a thousand lessons, 2,600+ kanji, all likely JLPT grammar points, and 21,000+ native sentences filled with native audio. That's no small feat).

Thanks for studying with us & checking out the monthly update!

    Happy studies,
    The NativShark team
