I use another platform to study Japanese, can I transfer my progress?

NativShark has integrations with both WaniKani and Satori Reader.

Information and instructions to connect your accounts can be found on the integrations page.

    FAQ

What does connecting my accounts do?

If you have learned a kanji in WaniKani that is taught in NativShark, it will be automatically archived in NativShark so that you do not see it appear in your Study Now flow. You are still able to see the archived kanji in your kanji archive.

When you link with Satori Reader, it pulls information from NativShark about what words you already know, so it can adjust your reading accordingly (hiding furigana).

I've never tried WaniKani or Satori Reader. Should I use them in my studies?

NativShark is designed to be a comprehensive resource that covers what you need to get into native materials, which are materials designed for native speakers of the language, as soon as practically possible.

This means, when studying with NativShark, you need three things:

    1. The Study Now button on NativShark
    2. Native materials that interest you
    3. Consistency in your studies

With this in mind, how do these integrations with WaniKani or Satori Reader fit in to my NativShark studies?

As mentioned above, we generally recommend just jumping straight into whatever native materials interest you and finding your way their with a trusty dictionary and the search feature on NativShark.

However, some students prefer a more guided approach when they are just starting out with reading Japanese in a longer form format. Satori Reader can be the bridge you're looking for between what you learn in NativShark and practicing your Japanese out in the real world with native materials (which you should do! and often! So if Satori Reader helps you get there, that's excellent).

In terms of WaniKani, some students enjoy the extra focus it provides on individual Kanji and it can be seen as essentially a replacement for the kanji flashcards that NativShark has. If you're curious about it and want to hear about other students' experiences, feel free to join our community on discord and ask in the #study-tips channel or do some searches there. It's been asked many times!

Have fun in your studies and if you use either of these platforms I hope you enjoy the integration ability shark_love
